Membrane Bioreactors combine a conventional biological treatment tank with membrane filtration for wastewater purification. The membrane—often ultrafiltration or microfiltration—physically separates treated water from biomass and solids, significantly improving effluent quality with a much smaller footprint than traditional activated sludge systems. MBR systems are standard for municipal and industrial wastewater reuse applications.
